DESCRIPTION

Yosemite Valley is one of the world’s most spectacular climbing areas. Thundering water falls and giant granite domes tower over the valley. But nothing dominates the Valley the way that the 1.000-meter-monolith of white granite does: El Capitan.

In order to conquer its walls a new climbing style had to be invented: Big Wall Climbing.

The first ascent of the Nose by Warren Harding in 1958 made Yosemite a world-famous rock climbing venue.
The giant walls of Yosemite retain a magical appeal to this day.

Year after year, countless climbers go on a pilgrimage to the Valley, to climb a big wall or attempt Midnight Lightning, the most famous boulder problem in the world, and to get a feel for the old days of the golden age in the legendary Camp 4.

Alexander Huber documents more than 100 years of climbing history in this book - from the early rock climbing pioneers to speed- and free climbing. Accounts by climbing legends like Warren Harding, Royal Robbins, Jim Bridwell, Mark Chapman, Jerry Moffatt, John Long, Peter Croft, Lynn Hill, Thomas Huber, Dean Potter, Tommy Caldwell, Leo Houlding and Yuji Hirayama provide great insight on some of Yosemite’s most spectacular first ascent and milestone.

Heinz Zak, one of Austria’s most famous free climbers and internationally acclaimed photographer travelled to the Yosemite Valley numerous times, accompanying leading climbers like Wolfgang Güllich, Lynn Hill, Alexander Huber and Dean Potter with his camera. The result is a coffee-table book with breathtaking landscape- and climbing photography that will mesmerise climbers and mountaineers alike.
